Despite a late race flat tire that necessitated an unplanned pit stop, Denny Hamlin raced like a madman down the stretch and took the checkered flag at Monday’s Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 NASCAR race at West Virginia’s Martinsville Speedway. The race had been originally scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Monday due to torrential rains.

Denny Hamlin Wins NASCAR Race At Pocono

Denny Hamlin, pegged as a future NASCAR superstar, won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The race had originally been scheduled for a day earlier but was pushed back due to rain. The win was Hamlin’s first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

While there are a number of challenging tracks on the NASCAR stock car racing circuit, few have earned the fearsome reputation of South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway. Known as ‘the track too tough to tame’, its shaped like an egg with a surface that shreds tires. Some of the best drivers–including NASCAR’s ‘King’ Richard Petty never mastered it. David Person, on the other hand, dominated at Darlington. He won 10 races and won 12 poles–both records that will likely never be broken. He actually made the ‘track too tough to tame’ look downright easy.

The Crashes in NASCAR

Crashes are always a risk in NASCAR racing; auto racing is an inherently dangerous sport, after all. While everyone acknowledges this risk; it isn’t at all uncommon for there to be at least one crash in any given NASCAR race. Some NASCAR racetracks are notoriously dangerous, with there being an uncommonly high incidence of crashes, even fatal ones at these venues. While some enjoy the sport despite the risk of accidents, others are actually drawn to NASCAR at least in part because of the crashes.
