Learn to Dance: How to Look Sexy on the Dancefloor
Every wonder why dancing shows promote the girls as graceful swans while guys get no respect even though they’re dancing the same difficult routines? (Although I must admit, seeing brawny athletes perform ballet dance lessons is like watching a car crash - you’re afraid to look but you can’t help it.)
Professional male dancers don’t have it any better. Their uncanny flexibility is somewhat unsettling, like its against natural law. There’s something about a grown man in skin tight, ‘costumy’ attire, shimmying like a boneless jellyfish that makes people wonder - is he or isn’t he…?
But there’s hope. When ‘Saturday Night Fever’ came, John Travolta made dancing a manly thing. Not only that, it was sexy! He’s no dance instructor nor does he moonwalk like Michael Jackson, but he made the average Joe look like a king on the dance floor. If you want to learn to dance like a man, here are some pointers for your own DIY dance lessons:
1. Avoid ballroom dance attire/slicked hair at all costs. Unless you’re a professional dancer competing in ‘Dancesport’, you don’t need to look like a salsa dancer to prove you’re a dance king. Dress a little finer than usual but make it look effortless.
2. Practice dancing to your favorite music. Pick out a really cool song and experiment. Reggae and R&B offer a lot of good dance vibes with their slow, steady beats. They can make you look smooth even if you’re just bobbing your head around. Next, learn to dance with your hips. Elvis and Ricky Martin are famous for shaking their pelvis - women practically go into a coma just watching them perform.
3. Let James Dean teach you a thing or two. There’s nothing like a kind of quiet confidence to sweep your dance partner off her feet. This requires a lot of mysterious smiling and a kind of hypnotic stare. This is great for slow dancing.
4. Keep it simple. While your hips are the main attraction, your hands should still have something to do. Use them to clap or snap your fingers to the rhythm. Just don’t do it too much or you’ll end up looking like a dork.
Dancing can be fun and easy if you know how to do it right. You don’t even have to show off the hippest dance moves; you only have to look like you’re enjoying yourself. You can learn to dance if you know how to let loose. After all, its a well known fact that women find men with killer dance moves… irresistible.
