Though legal sports betting is prohibited in the US by Federal law, there has been in recent years a re-examination of its logic on a variety of levels. Part of this is a desire for new revenue sources, while part is simply a growing acceptance of gambling in all forms. Ultimately, the true injustice of banning sports betting lies in its contempt for the Constitution.

Stu Ungar didn’t have much going for him in most areas of life. In fact, it could very well be argued that he was downright inept in most areas of existence. He also had a self destructive streak that manifest itself in heavy drug use and other behaviors. Ungar, however, had one great gift–he was a prodigy with a deck of cards. He would become one of the first superstars of poker before it became a fixture on ESPN, but wouldn’t live to enjoy the ‘boom’. Ungar would eventually be done in by his baser elements, and would be found dead in a Las Vegas hotel room in November,’88.

The Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office (PCSO) runs the Philippine government’s lotto. On February 22, 2009, the Philippine lotto with its 6/49 draw was said to be the largest in Philippine history with a pot estimated to be P 320, 000, 000.00 or about $ 7 million US dollars. The hugeness of the pot attracted around 25 million Filipinos, including first timers, to bet for it, hoping to hit the jackpot. In fact just last April 2008, a construction worker from Novaliches, Quezon City, won the jackpot alone, which was estimated to be around P 249, 000, 000.00.
